Plagued by injuries, a depleted BAROS D2 hosted OG last Saturday and ultimately found inspired basketball to end the drought. It was the number of players stepping up to make strong contributions that sparked the eventual win, with Kassandra de Jong leading the way – scoring double digits.

EBV BAROS D2 started soft defensively, giving away open perimeter shots – resulting in a 2-8 run by OG (2-10). After a timeout in the 5th minute, EBV BAROS D2 came back out and decided it was time to get ‘nasty’ – raising the intensity in both offence and defence. Slashing through traffic 3 times in a row, Annabelle Nap (10-points) did set the tone. Followed by a long bomb scored by Kassandra de Jong and a score down in the paint by Emma Haagen, BAROS D2 ended the first quarter (note: up till now the first term have been D2’s Achilles heel throughout the season) with a 16-10 lead!
In the second quarter of the game, however, not much was working offensively for either team – resulting in a low scoring term. With both teams scoring mostly from the line, the scoreboard underlined 23-19 at halftime.

In the third quarter, OG opened the score from behind the bow – chipping away at BAROS D2’s 3-point lead (23-22). Yet, BAROS D2 responded by registering a score in the second minute – extending the lead again. Subsequently, both teams scored alternately as OG never backed down – reminding BAROS D2 that they weren’t going away. Nevertheless, with the game – and a few consecutive losses – on the line, BAROS D2 found some brief respite through scores from Faye Vas and Priscilla Kluis in addition to a strong defensive stand – ending the third period with a 33-29 lead.

With leading scorer Kassandra de Jong at the fore, the fourth quarter became a close affair. With both teams scoring in succession, EBV BAROS D2 still led by 3 points in the final seconds of the game. However, lack of focus enabled OG to come storming back to tie the score hitting a deep three buzzer beater, leaving BAROS D2 dazzled. 47-47 OT.

After 3 minutes in the dying embers of the OT, Priscilla Kluis opened the score. (49-47) Nevertheless, it was Emma Haagen (10 points) who injected life into BAROS D2, putting up 4 points in just 1 minute – extending the lead to 4 points (53-49). As OG could only come to score 1-2 from the line, EBV BAROS D2 ultimately won the game 54-50

Leading scores:

Kassandra de Jong (12 points), Priscilla Kluis (11 points)

After weeks of soft basketball, EBV BAROS D2 rediscovered their identity as team effort and sharing the ball were crucial elements in this OT-win. Keep up the good work!
